Payments

Open Finance → Payments to see every card and bank payment Stripe has processed for your account. GIG never sees or stores a card number — a customer enters their card on Stripe's own hosted payment page, and the card details stay with Stripe.
What a payment record shows
Each row shows the date it was processed, the amount, its status, the payment method (card brand and last 4 digits, or the funding source), whether it's linked to one of your invoices, and a link to Stripe's own receipt when one exists. The table shows the 200 most recent payments; the totals above it cover every payment on record, not just the ones shown.
Refunding a payment
Refund appears on a payment once it has succeeded and is linked to one of your invoices. Choose it, enter an amount (leave it blank to refund the full remaining balance), and confirm. You can refund the same payment more than once in smaller amounts — GIG checks each refund against what's actually still refundable at Stripe (the original amount minus anything already refunded), so you can't refund more than was paid.
Keeping payments in sync
Two things keep GIG's payment records matching Stripe:
- Automatically, as they happen. Stripe notifies GIG the moment a payment succeeds, fails, or is refunded, and GIG updates the record immediately. This is the normal path — you don't need to do anything for it to work.
- On demand, with Sync from Stripe. This button pulls recent payments directly from Stripe and is safe to run any time — use it if you suspect something is missing, or right after taking a payment somewhere other than GIG.
There is no separate nightly job that reconciles payments — the automatic updates above are what keep the two in step.
Money that moved outside Stripe
Importing a bank statement isn't switched on yet. For now, enter a cheque, an e-transfer or cash as a line item by hand on the project's Finance page.
A budget's Recent imports still lists history brought in from a payment processor, such as Square or Eventbrite, so you can see which file produced which rows. That history can't be undone from the budget.
Connecting Stripe
Connect Stripe links your organization's own Stripe account so you can invoice clients and collect payments — funds are paid into your Stripe account, not GIG's. Before you connect, GIG shows the payments fee it takes on each payment — a percentage set by your plan, never more than $25 on one payment. Until Stripe is connected, payment actions across Finance fail with a message telling you to connect it first, rather than behaving unpredictably.
